铰孔同样增加了一定的孔径，但是铰孔的作用在于使孔的精度与光洁度垂直度达到生产要求
扩孔，也是一种生产工艺，扩孔的作用在于，在一个点钻孔，如果直接钻比较大的孔径的时候，用相应的钻头往往不能达到要求，因此先用较小的钻头来钻孔，逐步扩至规定尺寸，尽量提高孔的形位公差。
两者的精度来讲，铰孔要高很多，
铰孔：使得孔壁光滑
扩孔属于粗加工范畴，通常应用在镗孔和绞孔之前。用麻花钻或扩孔钻来加工，扩孔的余量较大。他可以准确的定心，提高了基准孔的精度，并且减少刀具的磨损，提高了生产效率。
铰孔属于精加工，用铰刀来进行。在事先钻出的留有余量的底孔中铰去薄薄的一层余量，提高了孔的精度和表面粗糙度。
